Post 50 - Digital video

Now I am up to my fiftieth post on this blog. It is much easier to post when you don't assignments that need to be done running through your mind. Here is the last video I'm going to post. The video is of a project we were doing to create a campaign for Drinkaware. Our angle was to target drinking games in Ireland and how drinking at a fast pace can prove to ruin a night

Washington DC street acts

Walking by Chinatown in Washington DC, I had to stop to watch these guys. For a two man band they sound incredible. The audio from my camera does not do them any justice

More artwork

Three years ago I spent some time studying in the states in a university called Frostburg State University. It was great to see how the education system over there varies from what it is like in Ireland. I got the opportunity to study drawing, which I hadn't practiced for years. We experimented with many different techniques as well as many different mediums. Here is some of the work I did while I was over there

Taking up painting

Last year I thought it would be a great idea to take up painting. I already liked drawing so I felt I would love this. I learned quickly that painting takes a lot of precision and patience. The Sistine Chapel was not done in a day. Well either was my first painting, I can assure you. It didn't turn out too bad for my first attempt. The scene is based in quilty in Co.Clare.

Old work

Long before I started the creative multimedia programming course I started using Photoshop. I always liked to experiment with images and every day object some human characteristics. In this image you will see a Budweiser bottle relaxing with some popcorn drinking, well ya he's drinking a man

Some old interface design work

Citizens information website

In our first semester one of the projects we were given was to re-design the Citizens information website. Each group was given a section as well as the home page; mine was the travel and recreation section. I created four designs A home screen for the desktop and mobile and the travel and recreation for desktop and mobile.

3D project

I am going to add some posts to this blog of some old creative multimedia programming which I have done. I hope you like it. Here is a 3D animation of a pool table that I made over the Christmas period.

Music vs concentration

Study techniques

Everyone tends to have different study techniques. Some people can study in a group while some need complete isolation. Some people listen to loud music, which seems to help them concentrate. Others may find that music would distract them from their studies. For me I find that light music helps, It brightens up the thought of having to study for hours, however if something needs deep concentration I will turn it off or pause the song that is playing

Currently I am listening to Ben Howard. His light acoustics is creating a good atmosphere.

Last assignment underway

Last creative multimedia programming assignment

I'm just starting my last assignment for this course. Or perhaps my last college assignment ever. I must create a comparison between Cake and Code igniter. Currently I have no knowledge of Cake whatsoever. Let's hope learning about it is as enjoyable as eating it.

A big glass of link juice

Creative multimedia programming

So on a hot day like today my blog looks parched so I'm going to give it some link juice.

Also I think I've lacked on imagery throughout this project so I'll try and spice it up a bit.

What's left?

Coming to the end of the year I am down to three assignments left. I must create a report for comparing Cake with Code igniter. I must complete a project management file and while I have the report for this SEO project done I will keep blogging away to increase my page rank. My portfolio on issuu.com needs some updating to include Flash, PHP and my phone interface design, however this will be an ongoing job after my exams. Here is a link to the portfolio as it currently stands.

Web protocol presentation

Creative multimedia programming

Another one bites the dust. The work load is slowly but surely decreasing. I am ten days away from finishing my HDip in creative multimedia programming. Today was the day for group presentations on evolving web technologies. Our topic was web protocols. While at first this seemed like a dull and painful topic to undertake, it turned out to be quite interesting. It's good to know how data is transferred from one host to the next. I found FTP and SFTP to have very signifigant differences. I found that the internet really relies on the TCP/IP protocol. Email relies on the POP and IMAP protocols as well as SMTP, however specific vendors may have their own proprietary protocols

I know that there are a lot of abbreviations in web protocols and these may be forgotten but it will come in useful to know, the main ones and what means of transfer they cover.

Up the ranks

Step up or go unnoticed

So while finishing the main project I left this one fall to the side a little but needless to say I am back and ready to step up the ranks of the search engine.

It was nice to see how the Apple Developer program worked and how you must deploy an app a device. So basically I was building my application in Adobe Flash and deploying it via Adobe Air. Here are the stages I went through to get the documentation I needed from the Apple Developers program.

  • Create a certificate in keychain access. Export this certificate to a place on the desktop. You will be required to enter a App password and a keychain access password.
  • Enter the developer program. I entered through the university program
  • Upload the certificate you have created for approval.
  • Create an App ID
  • Register your device using your UDID. This can be found when you plug your device into iTunes
  • Create a provisioning profile. You must choose your certificate, UDID, and App ID in the provisioning profile.
  • Download these documents

You then go to Publish Settings inside in Adobe Flash. Fill in your preferences. You must upload your provisioning profile and certificate in the deployment screen. You can choose to install directly to device or for testing. If it is for testing, click publish. Import the provisioning profile into iTunes, then import the ipa file. Plug in device and sync so the app will install on your device

Main project finito

All done

So while still experiencing the tremors of the main project I must say it was quite a busy week. I'm glad that it's done and handed in. Now it's time to concentrate on my SEO project and also my comparison project, which I must do between cake and Code Igniter. After having a two days period without college work, I can say it was nice to surf through the net and browse through some new technology.

A very interesting product I found was the 3D pen. It is amazing to see that a 3D model can actually be drawn by hand. Have a look and see for yourself.
