Web protocol presentation

Creative multimedia programming

Another one bites the dust. The work load is slowly but surely decreasing. I am ten days away from finishing my HDip in creative multimedia programming. Today was the day for group presentations on evolving web technologies. Our topic was web protocols. While at first this seemed like a dull and painful topic to undertake, it turned out to be quite interesting. It's good to know how data is transferred from one host to the next. I found FTP and SFTP to have very signifigant differences. I found that the internet really relies on the TCP/IP protocol. Email relies on the POP and IMAP protocols as well as SMTP, however specific vendors may have their own proprietary protocols

I know that there are a lot of abbreviations in web protocols and these may be forgotten but it will come in useful to know, the main ones and what means of transfer they cover.
